Foundation

Alastair Revell establishes Revell Research Systems as a sole practice before matriculating at the University of Birmingham. The part-time venture provides advice and training to local businesses in Exeter and the surrounding area as they begin to adopt personal computers. A company called Microsoft launches Windows.

1988

Full Time Business

Alastair Revell graduates from the University of Birmingham in July 1988 and commits full-time to running the business. The emphasis is on being independent and impartial.

1990s

Expanding Services

Revell Research Systems consolidates its advisory and training business. It expands its services to include systems analysis and design, software development and technical support. The commercial Internet takes off and the Consultancy registers its domain name rrs.co.uk, which remains the home of the Consultancy online.

2000s

Growth

An expanding client-base further fuels growth. The focus is on professional service firms. The business sees increased demand for managed technical support. The Consultancy marks its 21st anniversary in 2006 by launching the Revell Research Systems Prize at the University of Plymouth. The business incorporates in 2009.

2010s

Emphasis on Professionalism

The Company emphasises its professionalism throughout the decade. A chartered professional supervises every assignment. Alastair Revell becomes a Vice-President of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT.

2020s

New Expansion

The Global Pandemic sees a massive shift in how people work, with many routinely working from home using remote technologies. The world of work has changed. Recognising this, the Company embarks on a bold, new expansion plan.

2024/25

National Influence

Alastair Revell becomes 64th President of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT for 2024/25, while also serving as a Trustee of the Engineering Council and Director General of the Institution of Analysts and Programmers, holding leadership positions at the heart of the UK technology profession.
