The award of the 2024 Revell Research Systems Prize to Taren Collyer celebrates an outstanding academic achievement and recognises her as the leading final-year undergraduate student in the cognate area of Computing at the University of Plymouth. By securing this prestigious award, Taren joins a distinguished group of graduates whose excellence has been recognised through the prize since its inception in 2006.
Taren consistently demonstrated exceptional ability across a demanding and diverse programme of study. Graduating with First Class Honours, she distinguished herself through both her academic performance and her commitment to mastering a wide range of computing disciplines.
Her studies encompassed many of the core areas that underpin modern computing, including software engineering, artificial intelligence, embedded systems, networking, cyber security, parallel computing and information management. This breadth of knowledge reflects the increasingly multidisciplinary nature of the computing profession and provided Taren with a strong foundation for her future career.
Her success is a testament to the dedication, intellectual curiosity and determination that she displayed throughout her university studies, qualities that are highly valued within the technology sector.

Following her graduation, Taren has commenced her professional career with Marine AI in Plymouth as a C++ Software Engineer. Her appointment to this role reflects both her technical capabilities and the relevance of the knowledge and skills developed during her degree. Working in an innovative technology environment, she is already applying many of the advanced software development and computing principles that formed part of her academic studies.
As she embarks upon the next stage of her professional journey, Taren's award serves as both a recognition of her achievements to date and an indication of the exciting future that lies ahead.
