Ethical Practice
Revell Research Systems is absolutely committed to ethical practice.
Ethical practice is the application of professional principles, values and responsibilities
to the advice, decisions and actions undertaken on behalf of clients and other stakeholders.
It requires integrity, honesty, objectivity, accountability and a commitment to act in
the legitimate interests of clients, society and the public good.
In management and technology
consulting, clients place considerable trust in their advisers. They rely upon professional
expertise to help them make important decisions that can affect organisational performance,
governance, security, privacy, compliance and long-term success. Ethical practice helps ensure
that this trust is justified by requiring professional judgement to be exercised responsibly,
transparently and in accordance with recognised standards of conduct.
Ethical practice extends beyond simple compliance with laws, regulations and contractual obligations.
While compliance establishes minimum standards of behaviour, ethical practice requires professionals
to consider what is right, fair and responsible in the circumstances. It influences not only
what decisions are made, but how those decisions are reached and implemented.
At Revell Research Systems, ethical practice is fundamental to the way we work. By combining
long-established professional disciplines with contemporary technological expertise, we seek
to provide advice and services that are independent, impartial, professionally accountable
and aligned with the legitimate interests of our clients and the wider public interest.
What Is Ethical Practice?
Ethical practice is concerned with doing what is right rather than merely what is permitted.
It requires professionals to exercise sound judgement, act with integrity, be honest in their
dealings and accept responsibility for the consequences of their actions.
Professional ethics help guide decision making when circumstances are unclear, complex or
involve competing interests. They provide a framework for balancing responsibilities to clients,
employers, colleagues, professional bodies and society.
Professional ethics are therefore closely associated with trust. Organisations and individuals must have
confidence that professional advice is given objectively, responsibly and in good faith.
Why Ethical Practice Matters
Technology decisions frequently involve significant investment, organisational change and
long-term consequences. They can affect privacy, security, accessibility, governance, regulatory
compliance and organisational performance for many years.
Clients therefore need confidence that the professionals advising them are motivated by more
than commercial considerations. Ethical practice helps ensure that recommendations are based
upon evidence, expertise and professional judgement rather than personal gain, convenience
or short-term interests.
By promoting transparency, accountability and responsible decision making, ethical practice
supports better outcomes for clients and strengthens trust in the advice being provided.
Professional Accountability and Codes of Conduct
Professional ethics are central to every aspect of our work. Every IT professional working
for the Company is contractually obliged to be a member of BCS The Chartered Institute for IT and to abide by its Code of Conduct.
They are subject to the disciplinary regulations of this professional body, which was incorporated
by Royal Charter in 1981. Many of our people are also members of other professional bodies
and must adhere to their respective codes of conduct.
Our senior fee earners are chartered professionals registered through their respective chartered
bodies. Professional registration carries both privileges and responsibilities. Chartered
professionals remain accountable to their professional institutions and may be subject to
disciplinary procedures if their conduct falls below expected standards. They can be struck
off from these public registers if their actions are found wanting.
Together, these external professional obligations and internal standards help ensure that
ethical practice remains central to every aspect of our work. We complement these requirements
with our own business principles, internal code of conduct, business ethics policy and supporting
guidelines. We also require our professionals to adhere to our Principles of Professional
Practice and to demonstrate the Professional Virtues that we expect. These arrangements provide
clients with confidence that our advice is delivered with integrity, accountability and professional
responsibility, and that our actions are guided by both recognised professional standards
and the values we uphold as a business.
Ethical practice is a fundamental characteristic of chartered professionalism. Chartered professionals
are expected to demonstrate integrity, accountability, competence and a commitment to professional
standards throughout their careers.
Ethical Practice in Management and Technology Consulting
Clients reasonably expect that the experts they engage will advise them about all aspects
of an issue, including legal obligations, regulatory requirements and less favourable considerations.
We advise clients without fear or favour and apprise them of all factors that may
have a bearing upon a decision.
For example, we will address the need to comply with
GDPR, PECR,
IPRs and equality legislation when advising
on and delivering digital solutions.
We will also endeavour to comply with recognised technical standards, even where a client
may be unaware of their significance. Rather than ignoring standards to win business by cutting
corners, we explain their importance and the risks associated with non-compliance.
Ethical Practice and the Public Interest
Ethical practice extends beyond the immediate interests of individual clients. Professionals
must also consider their responsibilities to society, the environment, future generations
and the broader public interest.
We are a socially responsible business. We take our stewardship of the resources we control,
and our impact on the environment and the communities in which we operate, seriously. We seek
to balance the interests of clients, employees, suppliers, associates and society in a fair
and equitable manner.
Ethical Practice and Independent Advice
Ethical practice is closely linked to independence and impartiality. Professionals should
exercise objective judgement that is free from inappropriate influence, conflicts of interest
and vendor bias.
Independence helps professionals remain free from external pressures, whilst impartiality
helps ensure that recommendations are based upon evidence, professional expertise and the
legitimate interests of the client.
Ethical advice is not always the easiest advice to provide or the most commercially attractive
recommendation to make. Professional advisers must nevertheless have the confidence to communicate
findings, risks and concerns openly and honestly, even where those conclusions may be uncomfortable.
Acting without fear or favour helps ensure that professional judgement remains objective and
aligned with the legitimate interests of the client.
Making Technology Count Responsibly
Organisations are more likely to realise value from technology when decisions are informed
by both technical expertise and sound ethical judgement. Ethical practice helps ensure that
technology serves legitimate organisational objectives while appropriately managing risk and
considering wider societal impacts.
By combining long-established professional disciplines with contemporary technological expertise,
Revell Research Systems helps organisations make technology count in a manner that is responsible,
accountable and aligned with the interests of clients, stakeholders and the public.
