About Aidan Connelly

Aidan Connelly was awarded the 2020 Revell Research Systems Prize as the top final year BSc (Hons) undergraduate student within the cognate area of Computing.

Aidan completed his undergraduate studies between 2016 and 2020.

He was aleady working for 288 Group Ltd before enrolling on his degree,  which he continued to do while studying.  During this period, he gained practical industry experience through a series of roles with 288 Group Ltd, undertaking web development, database administration and automated testing work across multiple engagements between 2014 and 2018.

He joined Core Blue Ltd as a Software Developer in August 2018, where he worked on a range of client projects using technologies including Laravel and Vue.js. In 2019, he returned to 288 Group Ltd in a short contract role focused on machine learning.

Aidan's final year coincided with the Pandemic, causing the University to sadly cancel its face-to-face graduation ceremonies that year out of necessity.

In November 2020, Aidan joined the University of Plymouth as an Industrial Research Assistant, working within the CyberSHIP maritime cybersecurity laboratory. During this period, he developed cybersecurity visualisation tools using Rust, WebAssembly and WebGPU to support multidisciplinary research into maritime cyber security.

In January 2022, he joined Evinox Energy as a Rust Developer. Working within an agile team, he contributed to the development of a smart IoT heating platform designed to support thousands of homes, spending two and a half years in the role before moving on in June 2024 to start a Master's degree (MLitt) in Management at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.
